Questions about Green Cleaning Seattle? We have answers!

Green Team FAQ

A tip is always appreciated – and goes directly to your Green Cleaner. A tip is a great way to show your Green Cleaner that you are happy with his or her work. Tips are not “rolled into” our hourly rate, so if you would like to tip your Green Cleaner, you may add the tip into your service total payment (and we will reimburse your Green Cleaner) OR you may tip your Green Cleaner directly. In the cleaning industry (unlike other service industries), it is more common to tip a flat rate as opposed to a percentage.

Here’s an example: a massage therapist or hairdresser is generally tipped between 15-20% of the service charge; whereas, a maid or mover is tipped a flat rate of $10 to $50+ per service. The range depends on the length and quality of work.

If you forgot to tip, you can send one electronically from the GRATUITY link.

We try our best to send the same Green Cleaner to your service every visit. However, we also give our employees the flexibility to adjust their availability as needed to help meet the other needs in their lives – such as school schedules, child care, volunteer work, etc. When our Green Cleaners change their availability, that does mean we will have to assign a new Green Cleaner to the services they are no longer able to do. However, rest assured! – all of our employees are just that: employees (not independent contractors). We do not guarantee the same Cleaner each visit; this just isn’t possible. However, all of our Cleaners are reliable; they are all trained, retrained and supervised by our company. They’re all excellent & consistent Cleaners.

If you would like for us to inform you by email when your cleaner changes, just let us know.

Of course, if you have any questions, comments or special requests, please do not hesitate to call or email the Green Cleaning Seattle – Otium-Maid Services™ office! We’re here to make your life easier. Call us or email us at customerservice@greencleaningseattle.com or 206.307.2270.

All of our staff members are over-the-table employees and have been meticulously chosen by our company. All of our employees:

  • are legally employed with our company (which means that your dollars stay local and go back into our local economy) and all State & Federal taxes are paid on them;
  • accrue sick pay and are eligible for family paid leave, per Seattle and Washington State law;
  • are covered in case of an on-the-job injury;
  • are licensed, bonded and insured by our company;
  • (before hire) have been interviewed twice;

  • (after hire) have been trained and are regularly re-trained and evaluated

Clean Conditions

The service time needed to clean depends greatly on the condition of your home when we arrive for the initial Deep Clean.

1: Spotless
Typically only applicable to vacation rentals or secod homes. Minimal use. Very tidy; no pets or kids; nothing needs deep cleaning or scrubbing.

2: Professionally Maintained
Already receiving professional cleaning at least twice monthly. Home is low use. Baseboards, cabinets, floors need very light cleaning or just spot cleaning.

3: Maintained
Being fully scrubbed down at least monthly by professional cleaning service or home owner. Very mild build up; moderately used home. Mild soap scum, light grime, pet hair, fingerprints, and/or dust.

4: Kept Up But Lived In
High use and surface cleaned, yet has places that need additional cleaning. Areas of build up that require scrubbing. This condition is about 60% of homes we do.

5: A Well Used Home
Hasn’t been professionally cleaned within the last year. Substantial build up in multiple areas that will require heavy cleaning to bring to Condition 2. Substantial dirt/dust/grime on floors/baseboards/walls/etc.

6: Needs Special Love
Home/office hasn’t had a thorough cleaning in a year or longer, if ever. May require a second visit to catch everything up to a Condition 2 level.

Did you know that many cleaning companies are not really loyal - or local?

Many cleaning companies use virtual assistants to outsource some of their administrative costs to low-cost workers in other countries (that they can pay $4hr) and also do not pay their cleaners their full wage (nor give legally-required rest and meal breaks and sick pay).

Domestic workers are one of the most vulnerable types of workers. Employer abuse and labor trafficking is still prevalent in the domestic work industry. Learn more about the abuse statistics on domestic workers.

Green Cleaning Seattle – Otium Maid Services operates according to State and Federal law regarding wages, rest and meal breaks, sick pay. All of our staff are local and all are paid above Seattle minimum wage.

Our owner is also on the Board of Directors for the Domestic Workers Ordinance Board through the Seattle Department of Labor.
